Arsenal’s Resilient Victory Over Ipswich: A Strong Push Towards Premier League Glory

On December 27, 2024, Arsenal managed to beat Ipswich Town 1-0, which enabled them to climb into 2nd place in the Premier League. He managed to go in front of Chelsea and reduce the deficit with Liverpool to only 6 points. The game revolved around injuries, some wicked goals, and most importantly, awesome defense that overshadowed the dominant display of the game, especially considering star winger Bukayo Saka’s condition in the match.

He had the majority of possession (64%) but failed to score a single goal at the Emirates Stadium. A tense contest ensued as the Gunners were the ones to go on and grab the first blood of the match when in the 23 rd minute, Havertz scored a nifty little goal off of some brilliant pacey soccer. Despite criticism that came with this season, Havertz scored thanks to a beautiful cross from ‘Tross’ who was playing on the left flank. The German international gave Arsenal the lead with a precise finish from close range.

Arsenal needed to recommit themselves to the title race and beat Liverpool, and they needed to do that by winning the game. The game itself was challenging. Mikel Arteta was bothered by the level of Arsenal who had the ball much more frequently but who scored less.

It is no surprise that having registered their seventh shutout Of the season, Arsenal came away with the victory. Led by Magalhaes and Saliba, the centre-backs dealt with Ipswich’s sporadic attempts. As Ipswich occupied the bottom of the table, they were unable to penetrate the defense and Aaron Ramsdale, who isn’t tested that often.

Although Arsenal had most of the ball, an over frustrated Ipswich was kept quiet as the Londoners managed to hold strong at the back. Full-backs, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ben White were a force on both ends of the pitch. This win reinforces Arsenal’s top-notch defense, which will be vital for the team as they pursue silverware this season.

One common feature of the game was the absence of Bukayo Saka (hamstring tear). Saka did have a surgery and was hoped to be out for two months. Arteta this season needed the talented winger to be creative and active and that is a huge blow because he is no longer available.

Saka’s injury is a blow to Arsenal’s offense, especially due to their wing relationships with Gabriel Martinelli. Trossard provided the assist for Havertz’s goal, and they did well without Saka as the Gunners were able to win that game as well. As long as they remain competitive towards the top with other players, Arteta feels Saka can be covered.

Arsenal managed to overtake Chelsea and Liverpool to reclaim first place in the league with this victory. The gunners have fared well under Arteta’s tactical setup since the beginning of the season. Arsenal must step up their finishing and take their deserved chances in games such as these in order to mount a title challenge.

Arsenal next face Brentford on 1st January 2025. The Gunners need to keep on winning to close the gap with Liverpool whilst managing injuries and the squad depth.

While Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Ipswich Town was commendable with a made beat of clinching a premier league title, it however, was fantasy football as the title highlighted the glaring cracks in their game. Defensively, they were solid and with Havertz’s scoring the all-important goal, the team still needs to better, work on their finish within the attacking third. No Saka for this whole season but hey Arteta still needs his men to step up, remain in the hunt. For Arsenal to win the title, which is still, become champions in achieving their goal, they need to become more versatile and learn how to win matches over teams, especially the teams who aren’t as strong.
